my buddy has a windows xp pro computer and the lsass.exe is maxing out the CPU constantly and the computer was just re formatted and had xp installed on it . He is running avg free 8.0 and no viruses are detected . Any suggestion on where to start trouble shooting would be reatly appreciated.

I ran c scan and found and according to the software repaired some problems but it didn't change anything noticeable.

What level Service Pack does the system have on it? There was a virus that used the lsass.exe process a while ago.
