I've got a 2-part networking problem that I can't figure out! (I think they're unrelated, but...)
1) About a month ago, I lost the ability to update programs like SpyBot S&D, Symantec Endpoint Protection, and I couldn't register Skype after downloading/installing the program. When I try to update the signatures for these programs (or register in the case of Skype), the program update essentially 'times out' and acts as there is no network connection. I was able to surf the internet at the same time the updates were failing... so I know I had internet access. Two specific notes:
- When I try Symantec Updates, I get the following error code: "LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available ..." However, I am able to go directly to the Symantec site and use their Intelligent Updater to download the latest virus defs.
- When I start up in Safe Mode, SpyBot S&D will connect and update. LiveUpdate won't launch in SafeMode, so I can't check if that works or not.
So far, I've tried disabling all firewalls (Windows and Symantec) and I've removed Symantec and reloaded it.
2) About a week ago, IE7 stopped displaying webpages. I downloaded FireFox, but it's showing the same problem. However, they work fine in SafeMode. I believe the problem started after the last Windows automatic update.
