I recently purchased an evga geforce 8600 gt 1gb ddr2 for my computer but when i try to replace it with my previous graphics card nvidia 6800 i get no picture at all, i reboot my computer hear noises like on normal startup but no picture on my desktop screen.
My computer is a dell dimension 9100 intel pentium 4 processor with a 450 w power supply. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i will happily give any more specs on my computer to help solve the rpoblem.

Did you remember to uninstall the driver prior to replacing it with your old 6800? Is the 6800 working, as in, is the fan spinning on the card?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that card have a VGA and DVI connection? If so which of the two are you using to connect to your monitor?
If all else fails, hit the reset button.

Its a long shot but have you tried resetting your monitor, perhaps its trying to apply the settings from your old card to your new one?
If all else fails, hit the reset button.

Can you install any other card besides the 6800? That card could be damaged.

Do you have another PC where you can install the 6800 to see if the problem is repeatable?

Since you cannot get into Windows with the 6800, running software-based tests is largely impossible. Hardware testing is the next option, if you have a friend or someone who will let you install the card in their PC, that would be worth a try.
