Hello all,
I have a sick machine, about every few weeks or so i run a scan at panda and tonite's scan really scared me, had over 512,000 files (NUTS!) never had that much. Had 20 issues that it was able to fix only 5. I dont know and am not comfortable trying to fix this stuff. Run Zone Alarm and Pest Patrol both of which i update regularly. I am not sure how this happened only that i am going to read up and how to better further prevent it thats for sure, but in tthe meantime the confuser is really acting squirrelly and am hoping you folks can help me.
I am running Win XP PRo and here is my log. Thanks in advance for your help

Hello jefferinmax and welcome to the BC forums. I don't see anything unusual here but you re running an older version of HijackThis. Please click on the link below and download the most current version:HijackThis_sfx.exe
Delete your current HijackThis.exe file and double-click on the file you just downloaded and then click on the Unzip button to install the newer version. It will be installed to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ directory by default.

Start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi jefferinmax. I see 1 item that we can fix so please do the following.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe
Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Reboot your computer and you're all set.

Regarding the issues from your Panda scan. The first 3 are infected emails in your email's Inbox. You will have to delete them from your email application. Unfortunately, the scan does not say which ones they are so it's kind of hit and miss (unless you delete everything in the Inbox). I would think that your anti-virus application would have picked up any infected emails. You might want to check and see if it is compatible with your email application and that it is configured to scan your incoming emails.

The last item is a setup file for your dvd-copying program. Many of these types of programs include some sort of advertizing malware built in to them. You can go ahead and delete that file if you no longer need to install the application.

Cheers.
