Scanning A File

I have just started to use Rapidshare , and want to know if there is a way that I can download a file and check to see if its ok
and does not contain a virus Etc , before I install it ..? I am using Windows Xp , Firefox 3

Hello mypenry.

To scan individual files, Jotti or VirusTotal would be what you are looking for.

Even though it uses many scanners, just because it is labeled clean does not mean it is safe.

What anti-virus protection are you using? You should be scanning your downloaded files with that before doing anything else.
