My computer is running very slow. Surfing from page to page is slow and I noticed when I was downloading a file from a rapidshare.com my download speed use to download from this same site at about 150 kb/s and it is now downloading at a rate of about 30kb/s at best. Applications are even running slow.

I have run, my AVG, spybot search and destroy, Adaware, ATF cleaner, and I just defragmented and no improvements.

If someone could please check my hijackthis log and see if there is an infection and if not please help me solve this I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't know if this makes a difference in the hijackthis log but when I boot up the computer, I go to the windows task manager and close things out I don't want to run so I am not using memory on things I am not currently using. I don't know if you need to see that or not or if that makes any difference. If I need to run hijackthis again and post a new log, let me know and I will do so.

Thanks.

Yes Tea I still need help.

I don't know if this makes a difference or not with the hijackthis log but after I usually boot up the computer I go to task manager and close programs that automatically start up I don't use or need. If you need to see a hijackthis log with those running, let me know and I won't do that.

I didn't do anything, but the speed of the computer is almost normal for some reason. My download speed is fine. Some applications still take a terribly long time to load, such as my web browser provided by my internet service provider.

I do have a new problem. When I am using my AT&T browser I am getting another browser that tries to open, not a tab, but another browser. Some security feature it has stops it and tells me something about this may be unsafe and is asking me if I wish to continue to open it. I guess something is causing my web browser to open and get redirected to a harmful site. If you need to see exactly what it says, let me know, I will copy and paste it here the next time I see it.

Here is a updated hijackthis log.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for all the info. The more I know, the better.

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

I am finished with your instructions. Here are the reports you asked for. Because the log for combofix is so long, I will post the hijackthis log in the next post to make sure it doesn't get truncated.

Thanks again for your help, I will wait to hear back from you.

Just a little update for you. My computer is running slower after I ran the combofix. I don't know if something else has made its way into my computer but I have new problems. I am getting several pop up advertising for removal of malware, spyware, that kind of stuff. Products I don't believe are legit and brand names I have not heard of. I am also getting this one annoying one that I believe says it is Windows XP 2009 Antivirus softwary. This one cause a major headache because my mouse becomes a big red X and won't do anything.

Something else. My yahoo emails won't load. I can get to it and click on it but it won't load or display what is in the email. I believe this is a result of the infections and just a symptom.

Also, my free version of AVG won't update anymore....this is what it tells me...."Update Failed, Invalid update control CTF file"....I have no idea how to fix this. This seems to keep me from updating AVG.

I believe that there is a possibility I might have new infections since I posted my last hijackthis log, but am not sure so I thought it can't hurt to post a new one since I am having new symptoms since I ran combofix.

Also, like I said earlier, I have closed many programs in windows task manager I don't need to run. If you need everything that starts up when I boot the computer, let me know and I reboot and post a new log. I did notice something running in my Windows task manager that is new. I am sure you have seen it on my logs and I believe it to be some sort of infections. Rundll is something bad isn't it?

Anyway, here is my new log.

I appreciate your help, thanks.

Hello,

Rundll is something bad isn't it?

No, not normally.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these places:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html
http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hello,

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O3 - Toolbar: Google Web Accelerator - {DB87BFA2-A2E3-451E-8E5A-C89982D87CBF} - C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccToolbar.dll (file missing)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\vemofogu.dll

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Navigate to and delete the following file(s):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vemofogu.dll

Reboot your computer.

Those sure did find a lot. Please have another run with ComboFix and post the report so I can see if there's anything left or if we got it all. How is it running?

Thanks,
tea

Before I do anything, I am not sure how to navigate to and delete the following file(s):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vemofogu.dll

Sorry, I just want to make sure I am doing this exactly right.

It is running much faster and all those popups are gone. Something I don't understand is my download speed. I know when I first got infected it seemed to slow my download speed, then all those other symptoms came. Then the download speed seemed to be normal before we started doing anything. I am noticing something isn't right when I am downloading and the speed is still inconstistent. I don't know or believe if the infections and download speed is related because from what your saying, it sounds like I am almost cleaned up, or am cleaned up. What fixes my download speed is if I just reboot. But, should I have to do that is the question?

Another nagging problem (at least to me) is my clock. It's on military time and I can't stand it. It's been like this for years and I can't fix it. I have gone in through the control panel and clicked on it and went to it by properties and I can't get it off of military time for nothing. If you can fix this when your finished with the infections that would be great. If you want to me start a new thread for that in different more appropriate forum, that is fine as well.

I can't find this to delete the file or folder??? C:\WINDOWS\system32\vemofogu.dll

Everything was alphabetized so I don't think I missed it, but I didn't see it so I couldn't delete it. However, I finished your other set of instructions and here is the combofix log.

Thank you.

Hi there,

That's all right. It was just an orphan then. One more file for you to check on from the latest ComboFix log, please. I couldn't find anything on it, and I want to be sure we get it out of your system if it's bad.

Please go to the following site : http://www.threatexpert.com/submit.aspx

In the "file to submit" area, please click the browse button and navigate to the following file :

c:\windows\SYSTEM32\osuterag.ini

Check the "I agree" box and when your file is uploaded, click submit.

Please post back with the URL of the page that comes up when it's done analyzing the file.

We'll address the download speed after this. :)

Thanks,
tea
