This is my first post. I'm hoping not to put my foot in my mouth too much here. Bear with me.

It's been awhile since I've had serious problems with malware, spyware, adbots yadda yadda. I've bought a new computer recently and it's been working quite nicely until I had contracted SpyGuard 2008. I successfully removed it, with the help of no less than 4 freeware programs, but now my registry is all screwy and there seems to be more complications than I care to deal with individually, so I'm opting to format once I back up all my data.

My question is this: In the past I had set a password to my DOS setup program. Somewhere in between the past and now, I have lost track of it. Is my password protected DOS setup menu going to affect my ability to format? If so, is there anyway to bypass it/somehow reset it?

I understand this isn't the most pressing concern in these forums ~ but at the moment I'm just trying to get a plan of attack charted out. I cannot open a single application without getting a .ddl error & I'm just dying to wipe this hard drive!

I believe you are referring to the BIOS, not DOS. I'm sure your question is a legitimate one. Nonetheless, per forum rules:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures (meaning passwords). If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

Sorry but the topic is closed
