I can't get rid of this bleep! It keeps coming back. Help, please.
This is a business computer and I really don't want to have to relload it.

Thanks,

Noid10t

Hello Noid10t,

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan.
Post the log from the scan here for me.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

OK. I did what you said and here are the results. Sorry for taking so long to post back, but I had to get the computer home so that I would have the time to do this.

Hello Noid10t,

Your log looks much better, but we still have some malware to get rid of.

*********************************************

We will use HijackThis to delete the a service.
Click on Config, then Misc Tools, and then press the Delete an NT service button. When it opens you should then enter the service name .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) and press OK.

*********************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

*********************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll <==file
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe <==file Be careful to delete the svchost.exe in the Windows folder and NOT the legit C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

*********************************************

Let's empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).
Select the Windows Tab, Run CCleaner ,(click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.)
When you see "Complete" on the top line, it's done. It's very fast.

I recommend that you DO NOT run anything under the Issues Tab and the Applications Tab. To prevent accidently running the Issues Tab and Applicatons tabs, clear all check boxes are under them.

*********************************************

Finally, reboot and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Ok, I did what you said but was unable to delete the ntservice you specified. The error message told me that it could not be found in the registery and to make sure that I used the short name. The log is posted below.
As for the performance of the computer, no annoying popups so far. Oh, and the 2 files you mentioned were not in the windows directory.

Thanks for the help and I really appreciate the quick response!!

Hello Noid10t,

You log looks much better, but we still have the NET Framework Service to get rid of.
It is a Trojan-PSW.Win32.Sagic.15.

**************************************************

Let's use another way to kill NET Framework Service.

Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.

sc stop ".NET Connection Service"
sc delete ".NET Connection Service"

Name the file remove.bat
Save as Type: All files

Double click on remove.bat to run it.

**************************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.
O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

**************************************************

Killbox tutorial:
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=320

Download KillBox to the desktop.

Run Killbox program, in the field labeled "Full Path of File to Delete" enter

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

Hello Noid10t,

The log looks clean! Good job on the cleanup! :flowers:

Please read and follow
How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!

I did not see a firewall on your computer. If you are using the firewall included in
SP2 upgrade, then you should definately consider using a third party bidirectional firewall. The SP2 firewall is better than no firewall, but it is not secure enough. It can't stop malicious programs that are already on your computer from making outgoing connections, so you get no protection from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and spyware that sneak onto your computer via your Web browser, e-mail, or instant messaging program.
.

Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:

Sygate Personal Firewall

Kerio Personal Firewall

ZoneAlarm

This computer sits behind a SOHO6 Watchguard Firewall. The problem is that someone let a little kid on the computer and didn't restrict what they were doing.
Just another example of how it doesn't matter how much protection you have, if your going to the wrong sites and clicking on everything that flashes at you.
They also weren't keeping their spyware programs up to date like I told them to.

Again thanks for the help and the quick response.

I wasn't looking forward to wiping the hard drive and starting over. They run a lot of different programs and it probably would have taken me even longer to do than this corresponding with you.

Thanks for the help, and keep up the good work! :flowers:
