have recently done a windows update and once again Microsuck put something annoying on my PC.
a window appears out of nowhere called --- DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION --- and it seems to only come up when i have windows explorer open. have yet to discover if its a certain directory that is setting it off.

oh yeah, and when it pops up it insists i close windows explorer

does anyone else have this issue (read: annoying problem)?
is there a way to turn it off?

DEP usually only comes up when a program writes to a protected memory space, and i have seen badly written programs and drivers do that, but the only times i have seen explorer do it the pc was infected with some nasty viruses. I can talk you through disabling DEP but you would be best off doing a thorough check for nasties. However your system should be logging the dep errors and we should have a quick look at them
click start then run and type
eventvwr.msc
then click ok.

then check check the ones marked with red x to see if is the dep error. I cant remember if dep errors are logged in application or system, check them both and then paste the error details here, hopefully we will be able to get to the root of the problem.

hey!
i've managed to disable the DEP for windows explorer
it was ONLY coming on when i was looking in a specific directory and there are only movies in that one so maybe its a unrecognized codec, although that seems unlikely.

also checked event viewer and there was nothing there that corresponded to the times when the DEP error occured.

thanks 4ur help!

A lot of DEP errors are caused by malware. I'd suggest doing a couple of the free, online scans listed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/usas...?showentry=1252
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
