Cannot connect 2 internet

I have a linkys wireless-g broadband router model # WRT54G ver. 6. it came with an installation disk and i correctly followed the installation instructions when attempting to connect.
1. from the modem to the wireless router
2. from the comp to the wireless router
3. plug in power cord
4. plug cord into the wall.

then nothing.. i have 2 new ethernet cables because i thought the problem could have been the ones that cam with the router. can u help?

ok. i think i know what it is... I am trying to do this with my desktop computer, and I am not sure that I have a wireless card for my desktop. COuld that possibly be it?
