Help with updates to recently formatted computer

I would like to get some help from someone knowledgable in security updates:

I know very little about computers and recently had a friend format my computer for me, since It's been a couple years and it was getting rather full. I got him to reinstall windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2 for me. Now Automatic Updates has a crap load of updates it wants me to install, since my space is limited I wanted to get some opinons on which updates are necessary/critical and which ones I can ignore. As for microsoft office x the only program I have running from that is mircosoft outlook, I don't use outlook express and currently am running IE6

They are as follows:

SP3 will have all of the important updates and hot fixes, I would download it and then see what MS suggests for updates.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Well I installed SP3 and it's still suggesting all of those updates...now what ")
