I am running Windows XP Home on a Dell Dimension8400 and have an HP PSC 2210 All In One Printer. I receive the following error message at startup:

Hp Aio Device Object Server
Wait For Service (rpcss) Failed: Hres=0x80004005
Unspecified error
Maximum retry attempts exceeded

My Start Menu and tool bar are unaccessible without some fiddling and I have no access to the internet on that machine. I found a similar problem posted by valbrandr on the security forum and he was directed to hardware. His thread seems to end there. Any help or suggestions for what steps I might take to resolve this problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Possibly you have done this but what happens if you uninstall the printer? Does the error go away?

You know how HP and Dell don't get along......

When I try to uninstall anything from add/remove programs under the control panel, I get the following error:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

I am not in safe mode. I think a number of services are failing to start as a result of the initial error. I see the following services started:

Apple Mobile Device
Ati HotKey Poller
Bonjour Service
Creative Service for CDROM Access
Event Log
IAA Event Monitor
InCD Helper
LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service
LiveUpdate Notice
MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM
Plug and Play
PnkBstrA
Secondary Logon
Symantec Lic NetConnect service
Themes
Windows Time
WMDM PMSP Service
Workstation

I found an HP uninstaller app and attempted to run this as well. Half way through the uninstall I receive an error:

ICE 1.1 Uninstaller has encountered a problem and needs to close.

The uninstaller generated and error report with the following error signature:

AppNameL hpzscr01.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.38 ModName: hpzscr01.exe
ModVer: 1.2.0.38 Offset: 0003b0df

Here is a link to a microsoft article on repairing the Windows Installer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175

They give 12 different methods to repair the windows installer. It's worth a try.

Let us know how it goes.
