I'm currently having a very persistent Security Center Alert pop up about the Sinowal Trojan. It says that the "Windows Firewall has blocked activity of harmful software" and then it has an option to "Enable Protection".

Before this, the only clue that something was wrong was that the Windows Firewall turned off by itself. So, I ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware scan (MB logs below) and an Avast scan and found some files starting with "TDSS". I restart the computer and now I'm having the Security Center Alert popup. I'm hoping I don't have to do a complete wipe here.

Thank you for any help that you can provide!

UPDATE: I'm not getting the fake(?) pop-up anymore. I'm not sure why. I didn't really do anything. I installed Zone Alarm's free firewall but I don't think that's it. So I ran some new RSIT logs. Unfortunately, the following two entries are there:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SVCHOST.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [vidxhp] "C:\Documents and Settings\Marielles\Application Data\Google\ggqjh22510678.exe"

I'm not sure if there's anything else that I need to know about in the logs. I only caught those because I've been googling in the meantime trying to solve my own problem. :/

Here are new RSIT logs:

Then I ran Avast which picked up and deleted C:\Documents and Settings\Marielles\Application Data\Google\ggqjh22510678.exe . Unfortunately, according to the new RSIT logs, it's now back.

And then I ran Kaspersky before I posted here which only picked up MIRC:

C:\sysreset\mirc.exe Infected: not-a-virus:Client-IRC.Win32.mIRC.614 1

At that point, I only had the pop-up which has since disappeared... I installed ZoneAlarm but it doesn't seem like I'm in the clear yet.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below a staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE

Also... The current formatting of your logs makes it difficult to read, so in notepad:
On top, click Format >uncheck Word Wrap

Thank you for responding!

At the moment, I'm not experiencing any current problems. Originally, I had a fake Security Center Alert for the Sinowal Trojan and some traces of the TDSS Trojan/Rootkit.

So, I did the following:

Disabled the TDSS driver in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
Installed ZoneAlarm.
Ran GMER and deleted "\\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\drivers\TDSSllisxdmn.sys"
Ran Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Really didn't find anything.

Ran SuperAntiSpyware in Normal Mode and deleted:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\MARIELLES\APPLICATION DATA\GOOGLE\DFXVIDEO.DLL
C:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{9F50D284-4DC0-444C-B5A7-E8959D58186B}\RP842\A0079304.DLL
C:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{9F50D284-4DC0-444C-B5A7-E8959D58186B}\RP842\A0079318.DLL
C:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{9F50D284-4DC0-444C-B5A7-E8959D58186B}\RP842\A0079337.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\TDSSOOJRVXOD.DAT

Ran ComboFix which picked up TDSS and seems to have cleaned up the rest of the fake Security Alert crap. It also picked up a c:\windows\jestertb.dll . Any idea on this one?

Ran ATFCleaner.
Cleared Restore Points and created a new System Restore Point.
Uninstalled ComboFix.

So far, so good. I did run into a Google Redirect using a fake sysaudio.sys a few days ago but it seems Malwarebytes took care of it.

Since I had TDSS, it's probably recommended that I do a wipe and a clean install anyway, huh?

Hi,

Your logs look OK again.

It also picked up a c:\windows\jestertb.dll . Any idea on this one?

Please read here. It's not really malicious, but could be used for malicious intent.

Since I had TDSS, it's probably recommended that I do a wipe and a clean install anyway, huh?

No, since that one doesn't really compromise in a way some other rootkits do.

Just a small registry leftover you have to deal with, so go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete Winwc61

Hit enter.
A small dos box will open and close again (actually you won't even notice that). That's all that has to be done.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
