Hey folks...this has been driving me crazy for so long, and I just can't take it anymore. Very often when I kick off Internet Explorer V6, I get a McAffe virus scan popup for a file called __c0022F30.dat (those are two underscores at the front of the file name). A screenshot of the popup is attached. The file is located in c:\WINDOWS\system32. The popup comes up over and over and over again. I don't know what this file is, but I know that I can't delete it because it is always 'in use'. I logged on in Safe Mode thinking that I should be able to delete it then...I couldn't - it was still in use. I downloaded a utilitiy that identifies the files that running processes have their hooks into. Turns out this file is being used by winlogon.exe. And I can't stop that process.
Any idea what this file is?
Any idea if I can delete it? Do I really want to delete it?
Any recommendations? Thanks!
