Hi, how can I transfer the contents of my old PC's hard drive onto my new PC's hard drive?

If by "contents" you mean programs and data files...I would not recommend attempting such, since the drivers and settings are different from one system to another.

If you mean data files...they can be transferred anytime by attaching the hard drive from the old system...to the new system and moving the files to another drive...or simply leaving the old drive in place.

Some PCs come with drive-overlay software purporting to do these sorts of things.

I agree - transferring programs should be done carefully.

There are ways to achieve it, though. For full system transfer one can use PC Mover http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/ or Move Me http://www.spearit.com/ (both paid)

For transfer a program separately there are WETC (Microsoft, was in Beta, currently taken down but can be found on the net) and PickMeApp http://www.pickmeapp.com (free Beta)
