It attacked IE first. I used Ad-Aware and CCleaner. It seemed to go away. Then it came back and attacked Firefox. I used Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in conjunction with Ccleaner and it wouldn't go away. After every use, there would still be another DLL file to find and destroy, even if Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware said it was successful. Often the files that returned were different DLLs then before.

I have no Window's Explorer due to this infection. Managed to run tasks anyway and found you guys on google when I entered in a DLL file name that I had originally found while scanning. I can't recall the name of the offending DLL... Ran the Kaspersky Scanner, and the Highjack This Scanner. All results are posted below.

Hello!
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I may ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Important!
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Make sure that you save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

That time it worked I guess. Also, when it gave the report, a window popped up saying that explorer.exe couldn't be found.
Yea, I have no explorer or icons, just like at the start.

I also tried to do a system restore, but it didn't work. And it wouldn't let me go back to November either to pick a restore point. Just FYI...

I'm glad you weren't able to do a system restore. It would have restored everything that we just removed and we'd be starting over.

On your keyboard hit CTRL - ALT - DELETE simultaneously to bring up task manager.
Select the Applications tab.
Click on New Task...
Type in explorer and hit OK.

Let me know what happens.

Here's a screen cap of the window... same as the last one.

On your keyboard hit your Windows logo key and F simultaneously.
Now do a search for explorer.exe

Let me know all locations and file sizes where it is found.

Bring up task manager again.
Click on New Task...
Click on Browse.

Navigate to this directory, if you have it.

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

Locate explorer.exe
Right click and select Copy

Navigate back to C:\Windows
Right click and select Paste.

If you don't have the i386 directory, you can also check here:

C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$

I located explorer inside of WINDOWS/i386. I copied and pasted it into C/WINDOWS like you said.

Then (and I know you didn't tell me to do this... I just kinda went on auto pilot by accident) I told the Task Manager to run explorer. It did.

My icons and start menu returned. However I received an error about my MCHD not being good. I wanted to screen cap it, but I accidentily hit OK. I didn't get a chance to cap it or read the explanation as to what was wrong. Before when this warning came up, explorer wouldn't load, but this time its still with me.

So I guess my problem is almost done?
