Hi there,

I got hit with a Facebook Virus today... I received a FB message from a friend and clicked on the link and accidentally installed a "flash update" (oops!). Anyways, this sent that message to some of my FB friends. I changed my FB password (just in case), ran Spybot and AdAware a few times in Safe Mode until it cleared everything, but unfortunately the virus still exists on my computer.

MAIN VIRUS SYMPTOM: whenever I do a search under Google, if I click on one of the search links that comes up, it's always redirected to a different link that has...
hxxp://find-www.net/ bad link disabled
...at the beginning of the new link. Also, my computer is a little bit more slow.

I just ran HijackThis and here is my log...

Hi,

I understand that you need help in order to get rid of the malware that is present on your system - But you need to help us first..
I notice that you never scanned with an Antivirus previously before starting this thread - because you don't even have an Antivirus installed!
This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world.
That's why I want you to install one first!!

* Please install Avira Antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/
This is a free Antivirus.

Perform a full scan with Avira and let it delete everything it is finding.
Then reboot.
After reboot, open your Avira and select "reports".
There doubleclick the report from the Full scan you have done. Click the "Report File" button and copy and paste this report in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.
Then we'll start from there, because it really makes no sense otherwise that we clean this up manually if an Antivirusscan is not present which should be able to deal with most and prevent further reinfection.

In case you lost internet access after performing above instructions:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

Hi miekiemoes, =)

First off, thanks so much for helping me out! I really appreciate it. And I thought I had Avira, but I guess not. =/

Anyways, I did exactly what you said... ran Avira and it deleted everything, rebooted, got reports from Avira and HijackThis, and then my internet went out so I unchecked "use a proxy server."

Here's my Avira report...

Hi,

I see you are running Teatimer.
I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.
When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
How to disable TeaTimer <== click me for instructions.
After you disabled Teatimer, download ResetTeaTimer.bat to your desktop. (In case you use Firefox, rightclick the link and choose "save as").
Doubleclick ResetTeaTimer.bat and let it run.
This will only take a few seconds.

Then,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:9090
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;<local>
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F0D4B231-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - (no file)
O23 - Service: Remote Registry (RemoteRegistry) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\tinyproxy\tinyproxy.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Then, go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete "Remote Registry (RemoteRegistry) " <== yes, there should be a space after ) and "

Then reboot.

After reboot, rescan with HijackThis and post a new HijackThislog in your next reply.

Hi miekiemoes, =)

Great! I felt like things were good, but I didn't want to jinx it, hehe. The Google searches seem to be all good and everything is back to normal it seems. Thanks so much again for the help. I'll definitely be more careful with social networking from now on, too.

You're the best!

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
