I've only just managed to solve the problem. I have to idea what happened. For weeks I was unable to change the color using the materials palette. Though I could use the dropper tool and I could still change the color of text when using the text tool all other color changing features seemed to be disabled.

As a last attempt before I went for help I decided to mess around with the 'General Program Preferences' in the palette section. I just clicked a load of radio buttons and check boxes only to find the materials palette apear when I confirmed the changes. I'm going through the help manual now trying to find out what happened, but I wonder if anyone here knows what happened. Has this happened to you? I'm the kind of person who gets stuck on simple things, but this is the longest standing problem I had with Paint Shop. I just hope it doesn't happen again.

I'm so glad I have it back. I recently brought an issue of Photoshop Creative and would like to give some of the tutorials a go.
