I have no idea how this happened, but I cant log in to this laptop. I was away for thanksgiving, came back and started it up. It just started blue screening at bootup and automatically rebooted itself. I used the recovery CD and got to the recovery console. Ran chkdsk /r. Now when I boot up I get this error:

winlogon.exe - application error

the instruction at xxxxx (long string of numbers and letters)
reference memory at xxxxxx (long string of numbers and letters)
the memory could not be "written"

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Regardless of which button I click on (or if I just close the window), the computer keeps rebooting again and again.

Iíve tried logging in through safe-mode, but with the same results.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks experts!

Try FIXMBR and FIXBOOT in the Recovery Console. Answer Y (for yes) when it asks you if you're sure.

If that doesn't work, then I'd have to consider a repair install of XP. What's the make and model of the system - and do you have the restore disks that it came with/it had you make?
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
