hi this is a post moved from xp home and pro, viewed originally by garmanma and usasma. hi i started up this morning and was loading google chrome when the system shut down and restarted on its own, the window dialogue box told me to reboot and restore to a better day, the code for the error was"BCCode:1000000d1 BCP1 FFBCAFD8 BCP2: 00000002 BCP3 00000000 BCP4:F6310C29 0SVer 5_1_2600 SP:33_0 PRODUCT 256_1" i take it that this is my system control, any one know what the problem is and is it severe. == i have unticked auto startup and done a system restore from last week before the problem, i have'nt had a shutdown since but another dialoge box telling me that some one externally has altered the firewall settings and the firewall has reset its self but to do a full scan immediatelly, which i have done this afternoon running av8,spybot s&d and defender, all finished clear BUT something is wrong i have been using the old girl for two years now and it does'nt feel right, the quick launch icons now have to be clicked twice at about ten seconds between each click or it dont work , its as though it nodds off and has to be rewoken, all the progs are slow starting and now i have tried to up date spybot it tells me "error retreiving update into file" i have cleared the host file but still no go, the lap top is working, every thing i ask of it it does but very slow or has to be reminded of what it should be doing, garmanma i have also just installed the microsoft malware removal tool do you think that what i have including the pct firewall plus will deal with the Sdbot virus if it is in there, cheers finbar . garmanma reply QUOTE
This problem may occur if the computer is infected with a variant of the Sdbot virus.

The Sdbot virus creates a hidden process. This process closes programs that system administrators use for diagnostic and configuration purposes. The process may also prevent these programs from running.

The file name of the Sdbot virus varies. Many variants of this virus put a driver that is named Msdirectx.sys or Haxdrv.sys on the computer. This driver is used to hide the virus process. The file names that the virus frequently uses include Msdrv.exe and Sdkcore.exe. These virus variants can restore the virus if you delete the files.

unfortunately from a google search that correlates rather nicely with

Sdbot virus

Backdoor.Sdbot is a Trojan horse that opens a back door and

allows a remote attacker to control a computer by using Internet Relay Chat

(IRC). The Trojan can update itself by checking for newer versions on the Internet.

Msdrv.exe

can be removed by running superantispware

http://www.superantispyware.com/definition/msdrv/

If you would like to run superantispyware please try this

Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your Desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates".

(If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.)
  • In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.
  • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
  • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
  • Do not run a scan just yet.
Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method.

To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:
  • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

You may wish to also run the malwarebytes program ? If so
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your Desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.

  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

I would like to be proved wrong , but I suggest you may wish to consider the security of your computer

hi ruby1 i did the Superantispy scan in safe mode and it showed nothing as did a scan with malwarebytes, as i said earlier the laptop is working nothing is missing its just in stutter mode all the time, the external tampering with the firewall may be something to do with utorrent, i have d/l this site for months with no troubles but today when i try to d/l the page flashes on the screen with the d/l title then disappears, my pctoolsplus firewall goes made with a flurry of internet attempts to differernt ip's i blocked them all, then a dialogue box says " utorrent as started but is unresponceive please close" which you cant as it as disappeared so i pulled the plug on it with task manager then unistalled it,three of the ip belong to ripe.net, one in alburquerque(abuse and policy use), one in amsterdam a forwarding company and one for bskyb broadband brighton england who are my isp, ok i have over ran my month allowance a tad but surely dont rate these tactics, do you think it is these people who could have altered my firewall finbar
