My start menu doesn't load completely every time and then freezes. The mouse moves round but I cant click on anything, there's just the hourglass. I switch it off and after a couple of tries it returns to normal!
I have Norton, Yahoo Antispy, Zone Alarm. Using XP. Just downloaded SP2 but it was happening before that.
Please can anyone help?
I think this site is great for people like me - best discovery ever.

Hi J Welcome to BC

Firstly a few simple things to try........or at least ask!!

Your problem may just be simply lack of memory, lack of disc space or lack of available system resource. Over time all the bits we add take thier toll.

Can you confirm the following.

How much Hard Drive (normally C Drive) space is available. Right ckick my Computer and look at Properties. If it is getting low then alsorts of strange hangs occur.

How much Physical memory is available......

When was the last time you Defragmented Your Hard Drive

How much system memeory is used when your system is idle.ALT-CNTRL-DEL at same time and look at Processsors, that sthe third tab in from the left I thing. At the bottom it will show Memory usage and number of procees running.

Check these out and reply to the post with new details.

:flowers:

Run checkdisc in safe mode.
Also go to "start"/"Run" and type "msconfig" then click enter.

What programs do you see running?

You may want to run a couple of web based malware scans:

Web based online Antivirus and anti-malware scans:

Panda Activescan (IE only)
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:
http://housecall-beta.trendmicro.com/en/st...orp.asp?id=scan

Etrust Anti-virus web scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Allow the above to fix what they find.
