Cannot open System Information

I have a problem that I cannot open System Information, I 've tried accessing from Start > Run; from System Tools and from Program Files and it simply doesn't happen anything.
I am not sure if something was deleted from computer because 20 days ago I've formated windows and at a very strat ThreatFire found some file (I think it was in system32) and deleted it.
Yesterday I figured I cannot access System Information.
I have tried severel suggestions but noone of them helped me.
I have even tried replacing files with new ones, first I had 3 files, now I've put these.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below a staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE

Hello :) and excuse me for delay now.

First I've managed to install Malwarebyte's anti-malware, the problem was that Threatfire had uninstall.exe named the same as Malwarebyte's, so I uninstalled it. Malwarebyte's showed no infection but I still cannot access System Information :thumbsup:

Hello, Enigm@
I would like us to use ESET (NOD32)'s Online Scanner
  • Please go to ESET OnlineScan (NOD32)
  • You will then see the Terms of Use, tick the check-box infront of YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Now click Start
  • Should you face a Security Warning that asks if you want to install and run a file called "OnlineScanner.cab", click Yes
  • Click Start
    • Note: (the Onlinescanner will now prepare itself for running on your pc)
  • To do a full-scan, tick: "Remove found threats" and "Scan potentially unwanted applications"
  • Press Scan
  • The Onlinescan will now start and scan your pc (this could take a while)
  • When the scan has finished, it will show a screen with two tabs "overview" and "details" and the option to get information or buy software, just close the window
  • Click Start >> Run... >> type: C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • The Scanresults will now open in Notepad
  • Click into the text area, right-click and chose "select all" (or use <Control>+A)
  • Right-click again and chose "Copy" (or <Control>+C)
  • Close/Exit Notepad
  • Navigate to this thread and post your log along with anything else requested from us, by right-clicking and "paste" (or ctrl+v) in the text area of the reply post you just created.
Note: For Vista Users: Eset is compatible but Internet Explorer must be run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.)

We need to repair some of windows' internal registration settings
  • Please download Dial-A-Fix from one of the following mirrors:
  • Extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Double click Dial-a-Fix.exe to start the program.
  • Press the green double checkmark box (Looks like this: Posted Image)
  • UNcheck "Empty Temp Folders", as well as "Adjust Time/Date" in the prep section. The prep section should then look like this:

  • When the window looks like this, press the GO button in the bottom of the window.

At this point, I don't think this is a malware related issue. I am therefore underqualified to assist.

You should start a new topic in the WinXP forum here:

To be honest, if I had to guess, I'd guess ThreatFire as the cause of your problems. Maybe the uninstaller didn't work so well.

Would also be Zonealarm. Or ETrust. I've had sporadic issues like this with all three programs.

But not sure there.

Thanks anyway for your efforts even If we didn't manage to fix my problem.

Just to mention that another problem occurred after dial-a-fix, the programs related to my d-link wireless adapter were reporting some errors but I've fixed that.

I'll try a new thread in WinXP forum or I'll try to repair it using windows xp CD-rom.
