is there a way i can check what has been downloaded onto my computer recently?

the thing is that i had a few tabs open in firefox today from some motorbike forums and my utorrent was turned off, meaning NOTHING was downloading.
i left for a few hours...and came back to see that NETMETER was telling me 12 gigs had been downloaded today which is total horse poop!!

i can't think for the life of me what would have downloaded all on its own, let alone 12 GIGS worth!!!!

totally weird, anywho, is there a way to see the download history?
