So, I built this computer. It's running Vista Home Premium 64bit. From last night to this morning, it went from 411 gigs (on a "500" gig HDD) to 408 gigs. I turned the computer off around 2pm and came back around 7, and I went from 408 to 401 gigs.

Any idea what's up? I've checked for viruses/spyware. This compy isn't even a week old.

I've had no other probs with it other than the mysteriously disappearing HDD space.

Help please? :|

hi,,, its the vista shadow copy (system restore) making restore points,,, vista seems to make them for fun,,, and it allocates 15% of all hdd space to it as well,,, here's a couple of links to help you out,,, 1 is to change the amount of hdd space allocated to the shadow copy and the other is to change when and how often restore points are made,,,
i have my shaddow copy set to 20gb from around 45ish,,, and it will make a restore point when switched on and before an install,,,

and while were on the subject of the shadow copy,,,, if you have accidently deleted somthing you need then on vista you can now go get it back from inside a restore point,,, have a look at this link

good luck.
