Error installing windows on laptop

When I try to boot a windows XP installation disk on my dell inspiron 1000 laptop i get the error message: CDboot memory overflow error. Also the CD drive makes a loud banging noise.

any help with this would be appreciated.

Could this also be linked to the fact that it is requiring me to Recalibrate my battery?
