I am having problems with internet explorer, and can't get any scripting to work. Here is the thread for more details: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Act...lem-t18097.html

Hello asaw3157 and welcome otthe BC forums. the only problems I can see are a couple of search redirectors so let's fix them up.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

It's hard to say what the ActiveX problem is since I do not know what was done during the previous infection removal. It could be that some of the required system files were removed. I would suggest that you reinstall Service Pack 2 to ensure that all needed system files and settings are present and correct.

Thats the same thing I was thinking. I had been running Hijackthis all along and didn't notice anything myself, but I thought I would pass it by you guys to see if you picked up on anything that I didn't. I tried a reinstall of SP2, no luck there. There isn't a whole lot else I could do short of a format and clean install of windows. I know somewhere along the lines of cleaning the infections IE files were corrupted or destroyed. It's simply beyond repair. So I installed mozilla firefox on my clients computer, and I have him running that instead. It is more secure after all. He seems to be happy, and that problem is finally out of my hands. Thanks for all of the help!

Hi asaw3157. If a reinstall of SP2 did not help we could check for some hidden infections that do not show up in a HijackThis log. Try this to start:

Download rkfiles.zip and unzip it to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt back here and I will review it when it comes in.
