Hi, and thank you all in advance for any help you can offer.

I downloaded Motorola Phone Tools from a site called BrotherSoft. No problems with the download, used the program with no problem.

But when I closed the program out, I noticed that most of my desktop icons were gone. I immediately restarted in safe mode, ran AVG, ran AdAware, did disk clean up and defragged. When I rebooted normally, most of my added programs, including my AVG security program, my Walkman updater, etc. were gone. G-O-N-E.

I'm at a total loss. Do I have a virus or a worm? What could have happened?

Again, any help is appreciated. I'm not that computer savvy, so I know when to go to the experts.

Thank you.

Hi Mr.Slicky, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Try doing a System Restore to a date prior to this download.

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.

When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.

The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore. This may take a long time to complete, and when it is done it will restart your computer. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Hi, and thank you for responding.

I actually tried that yesterday; it would only let me restore to a time late yesterday afternoon, after I'd downloaded the program. I'm sorry, I should have said I'd tried to restore in my first post.

I also deleted the Phone Tools program after I realized something was going on.
