Sounds like your laptop battery is failing. How old is the laptop? Is it under warranty? If so, call HP support to get a replacement.
If not, you could order one.

Before you do anything, make sure it is a consistent issue, and not a one time thing.

Borrow a cord and see if it will charge with a different cord.

Thanks for the replies, It's almost a year old and it's a one time thing, I believe I've had this problem before but am unsure how I solved it. I think it might be charging but the software says otherwise.

EDIT: Well bleep me, it's charging. O_O Sorry to waste your time. Can be closed now.
