connect laptop to pc

i have just bought a laptop and want to know how to connect it to my pc in the house so that it is running both wireless and via ethernet cable, my pc is running on windows xp and orange broadband, laptop has Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 operating system installed.

Is there a reason for wanting to do this? It won't improve the speed of the Internet.
