chkdsk /r

i cant log into windows to run chkdsk /r.
i know i can do it from the recovery console by booting from disk, but isn't there another way to get to a command prompt after starting up?

It's better if you start if from outside Windows, from the Recovery Console of the XP CD.

That way, the user has no delay in it running...if started from within XP, then XP must shut down before it can run.
