Hello rls,

To take care of Vundo.B, download this removal tool and run it from safe mode. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html
Be sure to read and follow the directions.

When the tool has finished running, you will see a message indicating whether Trojan.Vundo.B has infected the computer and the files removed. Please post that message.

This actually seems to do a pretty good job of removing the trojan.

After you've done this, if you'll post a new HijackThis log I'll look at it and make sure you don't have any other malware on you system.

Here is the new hijackthis log. If this is OK I still have some additional items I need help with. Can youtell me where to go for soltuions?

1. On Web pages (including Bleepingcomputer) I get an error message where some linked information should be loaded. Message says: "Action Canceled: Internet Explorer unable to link to the page requested." Something must have been deleted from IE.

2. Norton WINDOC identifies 2 file problems.
"Invalid ActiveX/COM "AtWorkRendering\shell\Print To\command"
"Missing Microsoft Shared .DLL SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\shared DLLs c\Programfiles\commonfiles\Roxioshared\DLLshared"

3. Do youadvise loading Service pack 2. I had been told to wait.

When the tool has finished running, you will see a message indicating whether Trojan.Vundo.B has infected the computer and the files removed. Please post that message.

Did the Trojan.Vundo.B removal tool work? Did you see a message indicating that it found it and deleted it?

Yes, FxVundoB seems to have worked. It found the virus and 5 registry entries. Do you see any other Malware?

Can tell me where to go for solutions to these problems?

1. On Web pages (including Bleepingcomputer) I get an error message where some linked information should be loaded. Message says: "Action Canceled: Internet Explorer unable to link to the page requested." Something must have been deleted from IE.

2. Norton WINDOC identifies 2 file problems.
"Invalid ActiveX/COM "AtWorkRendering\shell\Print To\command"
"Missing Microsoft Shared .DLL SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\shared DLLs c\Programfiles\commonfiles\Roxioshared\DLLshared"

3. Do youadvise loading Service pack 2. I had been told to wait.

Hello rls,

You log looks good except for some minor cleanup.

You will have to disable Spybot teatimer before using Hijackthis.
Here is how you do that: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

Do you know the Internet Provider or Domain '4.2.2.5,4.2.2.6'? If not, fix this entry.
If this Domain does not belong to your Internet Service Provider, or your firms network, these entries should be fixed.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{162CEE10-1B03-4229-AC53-B34A3830F9A9}: NameServer = 4.2.2.5,4.2.2.6

Do you know the IP or Domain '205.188.146.145'?
If this Domain does not belong to your Internet Service Provider, or your firms network, these entries should be fixed.

Empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).
Select the Windows Tab, Run CCleaner ,(click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.)
When you see "Complete" on the top line, it's done. It's very fast.

I recommend that you DO NOT run anything under the Issues Tab and the Applications Tab. To prevent accidently running the Issues Tab and Applicatons tabs, clear all check boxes are under them.

1. On Web pages (including Bleepingcomputer) I get an error message where some linked information should be loaded. Message says: "Action Canceled: Internet Explorer unable to link to the page requested." Something must have been deleted from IE.

This may be caused by entries in your Hosts file blocking sites.
Let's rebuild the Hosts file and see if that helps.

Download the HOSTER from here:
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Press the 'Restore Original Hosts' button and press 'OK'
Exit Program.

Note: if you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

2. Norton WINDOC identifies 2 file problems.
"Invalid ActiveX/COM "AtWorkRendering\shell\Print To\command"
"Missing Microsoft Shared .DLL SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\shared DLLs c\Programfiles\commonfiles\Roxioshared\DLLshared"

Did you press the Win Doctor "Fix" button? Or are these messages after pressing the "Fix" button (i.e., Win Doctor could not fix them)?

3. Do you advise loading Service pack 2. I had been told to wait.

IMHO, I would install Service Pack 2. It plugs many of the holes that existed in the previous versions and it comes with a firewall;however, I cannot recommend using the firewall provided with this upgrade, as it only blocks incoming attacks. Sygate Personal firewall or ZoneAlarm are both free and work better.
Only a very small percentage had problems with the upgrade;however that does you no good if you are one of the very small percentage. :flowers:

To Do Before Installing XP SP2 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...ct=windowsxpsp2

Before you start the upgrade, read this:
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,119009,00.asp

And if you are one of those in the small percentage that does have a problem with the upgrade, refer to "How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed successfully."

You have been VERY,VERY helpful. Looks like everything is fixed except the ActiveX problem in WINDOCTOR.

"Invalid ActiveX/COM "AtWorkRendering\shell\Print To\command"
"Missing Microsoft Shared .DLL SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\shared DLLs c\Programfiles\commonfiles\Roxioshared\DLLshared"

I have clicked "Repair ALL." Is says it has fixed it but upon rescan the problem is stil there. WINDOCTOR cannot repair it.

Any further ideas? This is a great place to go for help.
