I have been receiving some strange e-mails in my Hotmail account over the last couple of days.

They all have attachments, are the same size (73 KB)
and the subject is "Your e-mail has been blocked"

Only the e-mail of the source is different. Which leads me to believe that there is some kind of virus trying to get in. Is there a new e-mail virus that is spreading?

Now I have not sent any e-mails that are to anyone with the e-mail accounts listed. I of course do not open them.

Examples:
Admin@charter.net Your email was blocked May 4 73KB
register@quickinspir... Your email was blocked May 4 73KB

Does anyone have a clue as to what this means?

It is just a "clever" trick to get you to click on the attachment, which contains a virus. No doubt you are getting these because your Email address resides on someone's infected computer. This is similar to all the false returns by mailer deamons returning Emails you never sent.

Thanks guys. That is what I thought. I just was curious as to weather or not there was a wider scope to all of this. Like maybe a new virus that is being spread by e-mails.

Scarlett,

See our Breaking Security News item by Harry Waldron.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/New...RLs-t17538.html

and it's related link

http://msmvps.com/harrywaldron/archive/2005/05/01/45335.aspx

Two of the items Harry notes as IM showed up in my MSN hot mail box, and
I also received a charter.net blocked e-mail notice.

As noted before here, our Addresses were probably gleaned from another's
infected/compromised computer.

Thanks Koan for the info. Although I did browse through the Breaking Security forum. I did not think to check the story concerning IM virus'.

I received yet another today. With probably more to come. I suppose I need to send out a mass e-mail to all of my contacts alerting them of this. So whoever it is that is infected, can apply the security measures that are obviously needed.
