Good Evening:

Hopefully someone can assist me in Exorcising this treacherous, nagging message and instrusive program/application. The message began when my son was using my computer today.

The message states: You have a security problem, then asks if I want to scan the computer; and continuously pops up every few seconds. . I do not know what my son was doing when this issue presented itself [I will ask him when he returns home], or if he was utilizing an application.

I have searched your forum beforehand for previous posting concerning this issue, but did not find any. I am running Vista Home Premium, 6.0.6001 SP1 Build 6001.

I have turned off System Restore to the "C" drive, updated virus definitions [using Symantec Endpoint Protection], version 11.0.780.1109, and am currently running a "full" scan of the drive.

I accessed Internet Options/Security tab/Restricted Sites, and added the following sites:

66.232.96.0, http://*.live-antivirus-scan.com, http://*.noc4hosts.com, http://*.soch-help.com, and ns.noc4hosts.com to the Restricted Sites.

Also viewed the Client Management Log - Security Log, performed a "Backtrace" and found the following information:

Hop 14 - IP Address 66.232.126.192 Time [ms] 140
2. Clicked "Whois" and received the following results:

Hi Zephyr,

Let's start here. Please make sure system restore is on.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note:
-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes.

Hi Rigel:

Since our last correspondence, I have continuously attempted to run F-Secure, but to no avail. Each time I run the program it runs for 8+ hours then suddenly Internet Explorer closes with no fore-warning. Tonight I started from the beginning following your instructions but have not yet attempted to run F-Secure.

After updating and running MBAM and the results were clean with all zeros and no malicious items detected. SUPERAntiSpyware was updated, closed, restarted in Safe Mode, and ran ATF-Cleaner receiving a pristine report. Upon running SUPERAntiSpyware again for "Harmful Software" the following results were presented:

Hi Zephyr5,

The message states: You have a security problem, then asks if I want to scan the computer; and continuously pops up every few seconds. . I do not know what my son was doing when this issue presented itself [I will ask him when he returns home], or if he was utilizing an application.

Is that message gone? How is your computer running now?

Let's try Kaspersky Online scan

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hi :flowers:

Kaspersky is currently running. I want to say I have referred my "computer" friends to Bleepingcomputer.com, letting them know how you have gone above and beyond the call of duty to assist me in cleaning up my computer; and that you are friendly, understanding, patient, and very people-oriented. I am so extremely happy and satisfied to have found Bleepingcomputer.com. I can not Thank You enough for all you have done.

Should I post the results when the scan is complete?
