hi i have some strange things going on with my pc,i was using it as normal this morning & everything was fine,i turned it off,i turned it on again 2 hours later and the desktop theme had been changed and there was no internet connection,i called my isp & they tested the modem which was working ok,they asked me to open up device manager, but when it opened all the entries were missing, they told me to get in touch with a pc engineer as something had wiped out all the services and the modem drivers,i managed to boot into safe mode, opened up msconfig and i checked in the services tab & all the services had been stopped,by what i dont know,i rebooted the pc & it was ok again,i have scanned for trojans and viruses but nothing and you can check all the logs here.....http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35757&p=366661&e=366661.....thanks.....

Starting in Safe Mode will result in a lot of the services not starting - and there'll be errors in your Event Viewer logs about this also.
This behavior is by design because Safe Mode doesn't load a lot of the drivers so that you can troubleshoot problems from there.

If you've rebooted and all is OK, I'd suggest backing up your data immediately (as there's no telling if or when this will recur). To start with, I'd suggest a hard drive diagnostic from the manufacturer of your hard drive. There's a list of the websites for the major manufacturers in this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/28744/hard-drive-installation-and-diagnostic-tools/
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
