Running Windows XP SP3.
Indication of trojan-agent-tdss.
- System tray pop up of white "x" in a red circle with the heading "Your computer is infected!".
- Spy Sweeper ran a full scan, identified Adware: "softcashier fakealert" and Trojan: "trojan-agent-tdss" but after reaching 100% of scan, computer locked up and required hard reboot. Subsequent scans also lock up computer.
- I attempted running Ad-Aware but when I tried to update definitions, Ad-Aware indicates it cannot connect to the internet (but I can get to most other sites with no problems). I can not get to www.bleepingcomputer.com from this infected computer - I keep getting redirected to a google search page for this site.
- I downloaded the hijackthis.exe file from bleeping computer onto a thumb drive and copied it to the infected computer, but when I tried to run it, it would not run.
- My AVG Anti-Virus is unable to get updated definitions - message indicates connection with update server has failed.
- My Zone Alarm will not launch.
I am out of ideas...help please!

Try renaming the folder on your desktop to something else ..say Gumby and see if it will run. Sometimes we need to fool the malware !

I changed the file name as you suggested and was able to run the HijackThis file. HijackThis log file is attached.

Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits
