Quick question Guys. I would like to know, how often one should reformat Flash Drives. Many different names, they go by.
I have a 4GIG and an 8GIG. I find after transfering only say 10GIG of Files, they start becoming erratic. Starting and stopping all the time. Wondering should I reformat, after each tranfer,or what, and all this reformatting, will it lessen the life of the drive?
Have asked around by PM,and nobody has given me a clear answer. What is rule of thumb? Thanks.

Hmmm.... I don't know about the reformatting, but mine started acting up by showing only 1 gig out of 4 gigs. I ran chkdisk on it and found some bad sectors now everything is OK again. Have you tried that yet?

Appreciate your response,so quickly,Wildabeast. They do seem problem prone. Haven't a clue, how to run chkdisk, on a Flash Drive. Would appreciate steps simply written,if possible,as I am only a Novice. Thanks in advance.

EDIT.The Drive letter is 'F' Not sure what to type, with what spaces, etc.

Hey DSTM, you should be able to run "chkdsk (drive letter):" Without the (). It should only take a couple of minutes to run.
It's been a while since I ran it, and I always seem to have something wrong when I type it in, but hopefully, I told you right....

chkdsk f:

EDIT for typing.....
