Had a string of viruses it appeared, from opening a infected video from Facebook. I have removed 97 Viruses with the use of MacAfee, Spybot, Stinger and the other recommended courses of action from the site.

None of the checkers show any issues however when I go to Google, search for Natwest and then click the directline.com link I get re-directed to the following:

<http://216.133.243.28/2.php?sid=8050&keyword=natwest&goto=9c25fd2f74a377e683086b16f3cd5a23-MTIyNTQ3NDI5NgkxOTQuNzAuNTEuMTI5CQlwX3JzMDEJODA1MAluYXR3ZXN0CWFiY3NlYXJjaAlodHRwOi8vcmVkaXJlY3QuY2xpY2tzaGllbGQubmV0L2p1bXAxLz9hZmZpbGlhdGU9NDkzNSZzdWJpZD04MDUwLTg2ODY4XzI5NDcwNTcmdGVybXM9bmF0d2VzdCZzaWQ9WjUzMzA0NDAyNyU0MEV6WHljak56OFZOemNUTXk4Rk54OEZPejgxTjVJRE4zUVROeUlUTSZhPXN2YQkwLjAyMQkwCTEJODY4NjhfMjk0NzA1NwkJMQlVbml0ZWQgS2luZ2RvbQlHQg%3D%3D&objTimStr=0.12775200+1225474297>

<http://redirect.clickshield.net/jump2/?affiliate=4935&subid=8050-86868_2947057&terms=natwest>

I usually end up on some weird comparison site, or more recently ebay. The link in google clearly says www.natwest.com

My browser and whole system appears very slow.

I have checked my host file and it appears normal.

I now attach a Hijack this log file (I also have a Combofix one available if it will help).

I would really appreciate some assistance from the people "who know".

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please don't attach your logs, but copy and paste them in the thread instead...

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:8484
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;<local>
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [(lanmanworkstation) ] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\bin\msltus40.exe" /set
O23 - Service: hpqwmiex (hpqwmiex) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\tinyproxy\tinyproxy.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Workstation (lanmanworkstation) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Messenger\bin\msltus40.exe

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Then, reboot your Computer.

After reboot, navigate to and delete next folders:

C:\Program Files\Messenger\bin
C:\Program Files\tinyproxy

If you're having problems with deleting them, try it from Windows Safe mode.
°To get into the Windows Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times.
Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter.

Then, go to start > run and copy and paste + enter next commands in the field (including the quotes):

sc delete "hpqwmiex (hpqwmiex) " (yes, there should be an extra space after (hpqwmiex) and ")

sc delete "Workstation (lanmanworkstation) " (yes, there should be an extra space after (lanmanworkstation) and ")

Then reboot once again and post a new HijackThislog in your next reply.

Extra note.. *In case you're having connection problems after removing the malware, do the following:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection and uncheck the proxyserver.

Hi Miekiemoes,

Thanks for that. Followed the instructions all seemed to work OK, only thing was I did not have C:\Program Files\tinyproxy

Here is my latest Hijackthis log. If I go into Google all appears to be working normally. Can you confirm I am clean?

Many thanks in advance

Mike.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Just check and fix next entries in Hijackthis again (since this Proxyserver was set by this infection):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:8484
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;<local>

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
