I run a computer with 256 mb ram but when i go to system information it generally shows around 28 to 80 mb available.

i take it this is due to hidden programs running in the background so i have downloaded a program called windows inspector which tell me what is needed and what is not.

can anyone advise me on this and how to tweek my system to work faster.

can you take a screenshot with your taskmanger fully maximized? Press the print screen on your keyboard and go to your paint program press edit then paste next press save as name it what ever you want but save it as a jpeg image and upload the photo here http://imageshack.us/index3.php and paste the url it gives you to post in forums! That way we can see right away what is going on!

I dont see anything out of the ordinary exept you have to instances of wcgop running. That is for your sound card driver. Just right click on the one that is under your name and end taks. Also XP takes alot of ram is you have all the eyes candy on! Here is one of the best sites to let you know what you really need running! Follow the guide and depednping on what type of user you are disable alot! But I would suggest stongly at least anothr 128 megs of ram if not another 256!! Ram is getting a little cheaper nowaday's but every day it can go up or down!!

Here is that site http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

You also might want to go here since I do not see an antivrus program running in the back round and do a test http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Edit Now I see Norton but better off doing it as a precaution! Also Norton is a big Resource Hog!!!!

And download this program update it then sweep entire computer! http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php

I say all this because it does not all add up to the amount your losing! You could also have a memory leak download this program as well and shut down as many programs as you can leaving explorer.exe and scvhost's and others you cannot end! Let it run for about a half hour and see if it comes up with any eror's!

Also Diable Windows Internet Firewall connection! alg.exe
