I recently ran these scans ; AVG8,Spybot S&D and AdAware8 after switching the computer to 'safe mode'.
While the Spybot scan was running, I noticed a very large amount of files under the heading; Virtumonde.sci) and Virtumonde.sdn)
I would like to know what these files are and if they contain either spyware or malware. If so, which action do I take?
The AVG and AdAware scanners found zero threats and the Spybot scan yielded 2 infections which I have removed successfully.
I then repeated all the scans with the computer in 'normal' mode and got the same results as before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
TerenceM.

Virtumonde.sci) and Virtumonde.sdn

You have been severely compromised

You need to post a HJT log. Read the preparation guide here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

Then post in the HJT forum here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/

They are rather busy, but someone will help you in due time
Good luck

Thankyou Mark, I had no idea the Virtumonde files were so dangerous to my system, I have no idea how they got into the system in the first place :flowers:

I have downloaded HJT and posted the log file results, I appreciate that people are very busy and will wait patiently for any advice.

Hi Garmanma,

I have repeated the processes suggested by you just to make sure I got everything right and nothing was missed.
Here is what I have done today:

The AdAware link took me to AdAware 2008 and prompted me to use a TrialPay offer before the program could be downloaded.
I decided not to take part in that scheme so consequently,no AdAware scan was performed.

Spybot S&D results: 246131 objects scanned, NO immediate threats detected.

Downloaded Housecall 6.5 free scan
results: ADWARE_MEMWATCHER 1 infection
HTTP Cookies 5 detected

I removed all of these even though the cookies were of the Profile type.

Downloaded Mc.Afee Stinger v10.0.1.602
Results : Number of clean files 233627.

Windows Firewall- enabled
Windows Updated

I am now about to perform the Hijack This scan and post the log file in the appropriate forum as I fear I may have posted incorrectly with the first HJT log file.

On my Desktop I now have:

AVG Free 8.0
CCleaner
MalwareBytes Anti Malware
HJT
Spybot S&D

I thought that with this army on my side I could win the war easily, but no

Many thanks,
TerenceM.

Hi Garmanma,

Today I ran AVG8,MBAM,SpyBlaster and SpyBotS&D.
All reported NO Threats found but during the SpyBot scan, Virtumonde Sci), Virtumonde Sdn) and Virtumonde Dll were still listed as the scanner was running, my best guess is there is well over 2000 files containing these Virtumondes.

I appreciate fully that the HJT team are very busy and have as yet had no reply from them.

Regards,
TerenceM.

You have an active HiJackThis log posted

You should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working on logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
