I have this printer installed on an XP machine. It has always worked perfectly. A couple of weeks ago I had malware and spyware problems - sorted with Malwarebytes. I had to reinstall some programmes. I did not think of my scanner. I came to use it tonight and when I do a preview it just shows black but the scan runs the full length. If I click on scan I can hear the scanner trying to move but it won't then I get a message saying that I should undo the lock switch, remove the USB cable and plug it back in. The scanner is unlocked and has never been moved.
I tired a reinstall but I am being asked for a second installation disc which I have never had. I have had the machine from new.
I even tried downloading the driver but still no success.
Can you Gurus please help me.
Sorry for being so long winded.
GEORGE.

Hi George.

I tired a reinstall but I am being asked for a second installation disc which I have never had. I have had the machine from new.

That seems strange as it only comes with one cd anyway. (CanoScan Setup CD-ROM disk).
Rather then a reinstall, I would start from scratch. If the scanner works in preview, it's not a mechanical issue.
Disconnect the usb cable from your computer and unplug the scanner so that it does not receive power.
Put your CanoScan Setup disk in to remove both the software and drivers via the setup utility menu.
When it's all done, reboot and re-install everything according to the directions, usually in a specific order with usb.
If it's still wanting a second disk, please provide details to the message.

I followed your instructions and cleared everything. Shut down disconnected USB and power and rebooted. Inserted the Installation disc and it told me that the Twain Drivers were not installed. I down loaded from Canon and installed. This Installation disc is still telling me that the Twain Drivers are not installed.
What should I do next.
Thank you for your patience.
GEORGE.

Mark,
Followed your instructions.
Using Potoshop>import>Canon..... I got a message box
"Could not complete the Import Command because of a problem with the Acquisition Module Interface".

It doesn't self-install when you click on the exe?

I had to do a manual install. I had forgotten to use the instalation disc. Following that I tried again to do a scan. In preview mode and scan mode it is again telling me that the lock needs switching and to remove and refit the USB cable.

What I can't understand is before I uninstalled every thing the scanning light would cross the whole screen in Preview Mode but not in Scan Mode. Now it will not traverse in either.
The last time I scanned everything was perfect.
