Windows XP Media Center (svc pack 2). Today after I did a google search on Firefox, I clicked on the search result but was rerouted to some weird search engine. When I tried to close out, I got serial popup windows which I exited, and a tab opened to YouPorn, so I ended the process. When I restarted Firefox, I had the same issues.

I ran a virus scan and quarantined 9 items (including brastk.exe, TR/rootkit.Gen, etc.), and attempted to update my Avira but it would not connect to the host site. I tried to go on the Avira website (http://www.free-av.com), but it gave me an error as if I was not online (although I could connect to other websites with no issue). It was not an Avira page issue, b/c I could load the site on my brother's pc. Also, I could not connect to free.avg.com, lavasoft, Ad-Aware updater and other virus/spyware protection sites!

Why am I getting these weird pop-ups when I do searches, and why can't I access the Avira website? Please help...

Jessica

Hi .

I use AntiVir Personal Edition...there's something wrong with the site today. I haven't been able to update my defs today yet and it usually does so automatically by mid-morning.

All was fine yesterday.

Thanks. There coulda beeen website troubles, but I brought up the site on my brother's pc, which is right next to my laptop using the same wireless connection, and it loaded fine, so I think it's something more than that. I tried adding the site to my 'safe list' but that didn't help. Plus, there are those weird popups...
