This is my first post. I'm pretty PC literate when it comes to using applications, but am not as technically proficient as I would like to be when it comes to keeping the PC tuned. So hopefully this post is done somewhat to your standards, but if not please tell me and I will repost and do better next time.
Recently I did a few things to try to "clean-up" my XP Media Center Edition PC because my Media Connect was not connecting and my HP Media Center Extender could not connect to the PC. I have no idea what I might have done to cause this change, as it has been working flawlessly for three years.
Thinking I would try to get rid of some clutter first, I ran checkdisk and defrag, removed some items from the system tray, and ran Registry Booster. The Media Connect problem is still there, and I now have another issue....whenever I open a new browser window it takes ~ two minutes to bring up the web page. (before was a max of a 3-5 seconds on the DSL high speed connection.) Once on a website, if I click a link to go to another web page that doesn't require a new browser session to open (just a new tab on the current browser) the new tab opens very fast. But again, if a new browser is opened it takes another two minutes to open.
Because I had used Registry Booster to make some recommended changes before this IE 7.0 slow-opening problem appeared, I used this same progam to recover a previous saved registry settings file thinking that might help, but it did not. Everthing else about the PC seems to be working fine.....Outlook quickly loads /sends my emails and Wod/Excel/other applications work as normal.
Thank you for any advice on fixing these two issues.
P.S.- PC is up-to-date on all Windows downloads including the recent Service Pack 3. I use Norton AntiVirus.
