When I ran my Adware software before it became disabled it found a file called facegame.exe and more
that was a threat. Also, I get a desktop message about going to some anti-spywarre site. My browser
will not load any of the popular security sites like Symantec, McAfee, Sophos, Trend Micro. My Task Manager
has been disabled and I've tried variouis things to restore it. I keep getting pop ups on my computer
saying I have malware. My computer runs very slow and will lock up with an hourglass displaying for
the cursor and the only way to get past it is a hard re-boot.

An online Microsoft Malware cleanup tool found some threats but could not remove them.
My computer is also running very slow. Help. What do I do ?

ok, Thank You for your help. I had to go thru much trouble to complete your instructions because the nasty programs started preventing my browsers from going to specific web sites and yours became one of them.

Hi,

I see you ran Combofix more than once. I actually want to see the first log it created, so navigate to the folder C:\qoobox and post the contents of ComboFix2.txt.

Also, can you tell me what this file is? It's created in all userprofiles and is a huge file:

2003-01-21 11:00 13,942,408 ----a-r C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\MpSetup.exe
2003-01-21 10:00 13,942,408 ----a-r C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\MpSetup.exe
2003-01-21 10:00 13,942,408 ----a-r C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\MpSetup.exe
2003-01-21 10:00 13,942,408 ----a-r C:\Documents and Settings\Chantel\MpSetup.exe
2003-01-21 10:00 13,942,408 ----a-r C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\MpSetup.exe
2003-01-21 10:00 13,942,408 ------r C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\MpSetup.exe

It looks like an installer and most probably legitimate - so let me know if you recognise it or know with what it is related. It's a bit strange that this file is present in all userprofiles though..

Also, I see you have RegistryFix7 installed. I do not recommend it - especially not that one. See here why: http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/reg...weaking_13.html

There are still some leftovers to delete, but we'll deal with them afterwards. I want to see the other (older) log from Combofix first.

Hi,

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\TDSSxbad.dll
Folder::
C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Application Data\SpywareRemover
C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Application Data\Facegame
Dirlook::
C:\Program Files\Common
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
"UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

Almost done..

Navigate to and delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common

Do NOT delete the "Common Files" folder, as that one is legitimate! The one you have to delete is called common and contains the file helper.sig.

Then, Please uninstall the ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker Toolbar via software > add & remove programs since this one is not recommended.

Reboot afterwards.

After reboot,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker BHO - {F0D4B231-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\ZoneAlarmSB\bar\1.bin\SPYBLOCK.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker - {F0D4B239-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\ZoneAlarmSB\bar\1.bin\SPYBLOCK.DLL

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Then, Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java™ 6 Update 5
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u10-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.
