Interent Explorer/Outlook Express will not allow me to type text

When i go onto the internet my laptop will not allow me to type in a new web address or a search subject in google. My laptop will allow me to use Word, Excel etc without any problems but will not allow me to type any text in internet or e-mails.

I am using Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP 2
