Couple of nights ago I stupidly fell for the "check this file out" scam and this ended getting my Steam account hijacked by a program called steampwd.exe I found in various Program Files folders and promptly deleted. Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation for various games and from what I could tell steampwd.exe only cracks the passwords and outputs it locally (google search came up with a thread on how it worked). So there probably is other parts to this that I haven't found yet. One thing I have noticed on my laptop since this happened is I can't run the System Restore program, I am unable to Alt-Tab out of certain windows, more specifically game windows and my keyboard can be unresponsive at times, so I thought this might be caused by something left over from the hijack or something else entirely.

System Restore informs me that it has been "turned off by group policy" and to turn it on I must contact my "domain Administrator". There are 2 user accounts on this laptop with both having admin rights and neither able to access System Restore. I looked on the Microsoft support on how to turn it on, but there is no System Restore tab in System Properties on either user account.

Virus scanners all came up clean apart from a few cookies which was fixed. I am not an experienced computer user by no means but I have some idea of what I am doing, I just tend to miss the obvious sometimes. So any help I can get with getting my system as clean as it can get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.

If you still need help, please post a fresh Hijackthis log, in this thread, so I can help you with your malware problems.
If you have resolved this issue please let us know.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!
