The risks in the Instant Messaging environment are now probably as dangerous as email now. One reason is that folks may be less aware of the new generation of Instant Messaging Viruses. Instant Messaging viruses are relatively new. Conceptually, this risk is the same as email. Still there's a key prinicple that applies to both: Always avoid suspicious attachments and URLs.

I saw a bunch of new emerging IM threats over the weekend, that are summarized below in this general warning
