My firewwall is getting strange outgoing requests for net access from a Temp folder. I have run scans and have cleaned out temporary files but somehow something keeps trying to send data out.

Log follows

All scans run and cleared.
Latest Trend Internet Security updates installed.

No error messages. Just files in the Temp directory trying to access the network on startup.
Currently not in a position to gather further details at this time as I am unable to reboot machine until a backup of one of my drives is finished.

Thanks for the help so far.

Thanks for returning your information, I see this: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\C246.tmp <<< but I also see Trend Micro and learned long ago Trend uses a file in TEMP to download updates so that file is likely valid and probably what is accessing the internet. We can be sure like this.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html <<< look here to make sure you can view all files and folders.

Use one or more of these free online scans to make sure the file is valid.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\C246.tmp <<< scan that file in red. I also know if we delete it, Trend just puts it back.

Currently not in a position to gather further details at this time as I am unable to reboot machine until a backup of one of my drives is finished

This is not a problem, get to this when you can.

Let's clean and look with MBAM to see what it finds.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you set this on purpose, you may leave it)
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: astral - {5f938c17-fbc7-4a3c-8526-85e5b1a1f762} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

3) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...refetch-XP.html

4) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Thanks...Phil

I see at least one dangerously out of date program and will comment on it and anything else I see if you will post an uninstall list.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Thanks for returning your information, looking at the uninstall list first.

Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.

Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more, here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
https://psi.secunia.com/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

Adobe Reader 7.1.0 <<< out of date, see these links.

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02 <<< very badly outdated.

It can be difficult to uninstall these very old versions, that being the case, this tool will help.

Messenger Plus! Live <<< for your infomation.

MBAM did a great job, removed a load of junk to quarantine. I have known MBAM to make few mistakes, wait about a week to be sure, then click the Quarantine tab at the top and delete everything in there.

Not seeing any malware in the HJT log, how is the computer running now?

Thanks
