So, I'm certain that my computer can't be restored to it's state before it was infected, I'm thinking of doing a fresh install.

but, silly me....

I never created any backups of some extremely important work.
I'm thinking that I could go into the infected computer, put the stuff I need on a flash drive and just do a clean install of XP and have all of the key files I need and be done with this.

Can the virus somehow attach to.. my.. usb flash drive and reinfect my computer?

Because then that would just start the cycle all over again and I wish to avoid that.

Apparently it CAN be spread by a flash drive.. but if you hold down the shift key while inserting a drive...a virus won't AUTOrun.. and I guess you can scan the drive before you open it?

Someone verify this for me?

Yes, they can transfer themselves onto a memory stick. Either one, use a CD or upload them to a website like
http://www.xdrive.com/
and downloading them on the other PC.

Beneath wings of darkness, wings of death, I dwell in shadows,
Here I have found a kingdom, here I have found a princess; the princess of darkness.
She's the only one I fear, my princess wrapped in shadows, my princess beloved.
