I have a backdoor trojan, and was sent here from Spyware Warrior to get some help. I need to do a reformat and reinstallation of my system. It is a 9x OS upgraded to XP Home. When I put the OEM disc in to start the reinstall I get a message to call the computers manufacture. Any help would be great. Thanks

What is the exact error message that you get?
Is the OEM disk the XP disk? Is it an upgrade disk or a retail disk?
Do you have a copy of the 9x OS disk (if it's an upgrade disk for XP)?
Have you backed up your data? Have you performed any hardware diagnostics?

It is a solid red screen with Compaq Recovery CD Error (at the top of screen) Blinking in the center is Please Contact Compaq Technical Support.

The OEM disk is the recovery disc and it is ME. My upgrade disc is XP home.

No I don't need to back up any data.

No I have not done any hardware diagnostics.

Have you tried to load the XP disk first? This may workaround the problem for you. It'll ask you to insert the qualifying media (the ME disk) at one point during the installation process to prove that you're entitled to the upgrade. Depending on the XP disk, you may have to go to this Compaq site to download the Software and Drivers for it: http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html

Here's a link describing a similar error: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...=reg_R1002_USEN
It says you'll need a new disk from Compaq.

I would go out and buy an XP Pro Disk and use it, and make sure its the full version.
