Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note:
-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes.

Hi Rigel, thank you for your response.

I already run the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (twice) before posting this topic. Thi first time it found a bunch of problems, it told me two of them could not be removed, and asked me to restart. I did and run again the software, which came back clean (I do not know how since the first time said it could not remove everything). Should I run it again or do you want to see those two logs?

Welcome back,

You have a few of these.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bmztmss.dll (Trojan.Zlob) -> Delete on reboot.

Remember to reboot immediately after the scan for the best chance at killing the infection. Go ahead and run the other SAS scan mentioned above.

Thanks!

I have a question:

At one point (I do not remember when) I disabled my antivirus and firewall because "it might conflict with the other changes". Should I enable them back already?

Thanks again!

I'm not pushing in any way, I just thought maybe my post went unnoticed... thanks.

All is well. Thank you for the reminder bump.

Yes, please enable your shields. I need to do a quick check on our leftover problem files.

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\COMPAQ_OWNER\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\YLD2NIXS\JS3[1].JS (Renamed & Submitted)
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WEBPOSITION 3\RESULTS\MYBUSINESSCONSULTANTS\KW-SEARCH-4202-M22.HTM (Submitted)

Let's submit them to Jotti's malware scan
Please post back their analysis.

Hi Rigel. If I understood correctly, I was supposed to go to the provided link, browse to the two documents you identified and submitt them. I tried th first file

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\COMPAQ_OWNER\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\YLD2NIXS\JS3[1].JS (Renamed & Submitted)

and this is what I got:

The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file

I could not even got to the specific file. After I got to "temporary Internet Files" while browsing, could not see anything underneath (even though when I use windows explorer and got o the directory I do see the "Content.IE5" directory.. do not understand why. I even disabled the firewall based on the message I got with no result. ???

The log for the second file

C:\PROGRAM FILES\WEBPOSITION 3\RESULTS\MYBUSINESSCONSULTANTS\KW-SEARCH-4202-M22.HTM (Submitted)

follows below:

Service load: 0% 100%
